Why Is Obesity Dangerous?

Obesity is a disease that seriously affects a person's quality of life and social life. Diseases caused by obesity wear down the body over time, shortening life by 10-12 years.

Diseases Caused by Obesity

Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, fatty liver, high cholesterol and sleep apnea are the most important diseases caused by obesity.

One of the most important causes of diabetes is obesity. Sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing during sleep for a certain period of time. Most obese people have sleep apnea. These people often snore and do not feel rested enough the next day. They are tired all day. High blood pressure and high cholesterol are another common problem in obese people.

In people with obesity disease , the problem of atherosclerosis begins at a very early age, and this can cause a heart attack at an early age due to occlusion in the heart vessels.

Fat cells do not cause obesity by simply storing fat. They secrete many different substances that cause inflammatory processes in the body. It has now been determined that adipose tissue also acts as a large endocrine organ in our body. CRP (C-reactive protein) , which is an indicator of the inflammatory process in the body , is very high in almost all individuals with obesity problems . Although these people do not have any infection conditions, CRP is found to be high. Obesity causes a continuous inflammatory process in the body.

Effects of Obesity on the Body:

  • It increases susceptibility to certain types of cancer.
  • The incidence of breast and ovarian cancer in women and large intestine, pancreatic, prostate, etc. cancers in men increases.
  • It is one of the reasons why there is a constant inflammatory process in the body due to obesity.
  • Joint problems occur.
  • Knee joints, which have been overloaded for years, can no longer do their job and trigger the person to gain more weight.
  • Due to the wear of the cartilage, these people face the situation of having prosthetic surgery at an early age.
  • Obesity negatively affects fertility in both sexes. It leads to hormonal changes and ovarian cysts in women.

Diseases Caused by Obesity:

  • Diabetes (Type II diabetes)
  • Hypertension
  • high cholesterol
  • Polycystic ovary and decreased fertility (infertility)
  • Joint pains (osteoarthritis)
  • sleep apnea (sleep apnea)
  • reflux disease
  • fatty liver
  • Increase in some types of cancer (such as large intestine, breast, pancreas, prostate)
  • Depression

How to Make Permanent Weight Loss?

The primary treatment for obesity is a low-calorie diet. A candidate for bariatric surgery is primarily required to have attempted a diet before. Unfortunately, weight loss achieved through diets cannot be maintained for a long time. Diets can cause certain biological responses in the body that cause weight regain.

When a person starts a diet, he loses weight up to a certain point and gets stuck at a certain resistance point. This is because the energy balance (metabolism) is affected. When a person loses weight on a low-calorie diet, the body reduces energy consumption, thinking that it is starving. The body almost goes into thrift mode.

This requires even fewer calories to maintain weight loss. This is not very sustainable, it is tiring. In addition, a low-calorie diet activates mechanisms that regulate appetite, such as the desire to eat, in the long term. At some point, this resistance is broken and the person not only regains all the weight they lost in the short term, but sometimes goes to a higher level. This condition is called yoyo syndrome.

Studies have shown that the rate of permanent weight loss with diets does not exceed 3-5%. A person who has never tried a diet in his life should try the diet first, even if this rate is 3-5%, this chance should be given to him. The common story of patients who applied for bariatric surgery is that they have experienced yoyo syndrome many times.

Ways to Lose Weight Permanently:

  • nutrition style; consuming fewer calories and eating healthy foods.
  • Exercise; regularize exercise.
  • psychological state; increasing socialization and doing activities that make you feel happy.
  • Obesity surgeries: It is performed when other methods tried to lose weight do not work.
